About The Event
Your workshop takes place both at Stoke Bridge Workshops and on the surrounding streets where you’ll look at how shutter speed affects your photographs to get great action shots; you’ll cover the basics of working with natural light, using composition creatively and how to use your camera’s manual mode.
In order to get the most from this workshop, you’ll need to bring a camera that allows full manual control. Ideally your camera should have the option of interchangeable lenses - don’t worry if you only have the one lens; this course will show you the best way to use your favourite lens. You will also need to bring a laptop in order to download and display your images.
If you’re interested in landscapes, architecture and street photography and want to know how to take better pictures, come and learn from an experienced professional photographer.
Our workshop will cover:
Metering - understand how your camera creates the perfect exposure
Exposure compensation - how to override the camera’s metering to get great images
Shutter speeds - how to control the camera's shutter speed to freeze fast action or get creative blur in fast-paced shots. Learn how to capture sports and action
Manual exposure - an introduction to this 'dark art' of controlling your camera (it’s actually not a dark art!)
Composition - how to develop the 'art' of photography. You’ll also learn about the rule of thirds and the best ways to shoot landscapes, people and objects.
You’ll take a tour of the local area around the workshops
Working in small groups, you will have hands-on supervision from John throughout the day.
All your photographic queries and questions will be addressed and answered
Your workshop will begin indoors with an introduction, by John Ferguson - to his experience as a photographer - you will learn about your camera and run through the content of your day. You will then set off, as a group, around the local area, learning and practising all aspects of landscape and street photography. Returning to the workshops, you’ll all have the opportunity to discuss the shots that you’ve taken - feedback from a professional photographer and from your fellow peers can provide rewarding insights into how others perceive your work and how you can continue to improve your photography.
